Hello,
I am the proud parent of a unicyclist and the organizer of the 2nd Annual
LBI Unithon.
This event began as a thirteen year old
girls determination to ride her unicycle from one end of LBI to the other.
Bridget Sprouls decided she
would endure 18.5 miles on one wheel to
benefit the Alliance for a Living Ocean, an environmental organization
that educates and lobbies for a clean ocean and beaches. Bridget and her
friend, Becky Reithmayer, another avid unicyclist from Haworth NJ agreed
to ride it together. I searched the web a bit and found two other
unicyclists, Stu Kamens and Rick Plavnicky to make the journey with them.
They wore Unithon T-shirts with the sponsors names on the back, and
were given water by many merchants along the way. The foursome finished
by riding right up to the light house. All told Bridget raised $650
dollars for ALO.
This year the event is planned for June
3. We are looking for sponsors whose name or logo will again be printed
on our shirts and mentioned in any news interviews we give. So far
our ridership has increased to 15. We are hopeful we will reach 20
by June. What a candid sight that will be on Long Beach Island.
With any luck and of course, Bridget's endless determination, this will
become an annual event that will attract unis from far and wide.
If you are willing to sponsor Bridget and
the other unis, please either
contact me Rosemarie Sprouls at 609-965-4795,
email me or send a check
payable to ALO with unithon written on the memo line to ALO 2007
Long Beach Boulevard, North Beach Haven, NJ 08008.
thank you , cheers,
