I never heard of LBI until I met my husband Harry. He's been going to LBI his whole life for summer vacations. We started the tradition ourselves in 1992. We even got married on the beach behind the Drifting Sands in Ship Bottom on May 2, 2000! I love LBI. My dream home is there, and my family and I will live there one day. We were there for our vacation-Aug., and will be there again for Chowderfest-2001! Can't wait, hungry already!! Also looking for summer rental, 2-3 bdrms, beach side, w/pool for summer 2002.

My family has been going to LBI for the past thirty years.(My entire life!) Now living in "land locked" Arizona I am returning for a week stay in two weeks, it can not arrive soon enough! The memories of summers on LBI are special and close to my heart. You don't fully appreciate it when you can't get there without flying 6 hours. I look forward to the beach, the sound and smell of the ocean and the solitude this can afford a person ( cell phones, laptops & pagers are being left here in the desert!) No matter where I've traveled, the beach on LBI is still my ultimate vacation destination.

I was looking for something on the website that would provide information about the water temperature. Couldn't find that but thought I'd seen it when viewing the website in the past.

I have been in AZ 21 years. My family used to live near Manahawkin and I miss LBI very much. As a child I used to spend my summers in Beach Haven. I hope to come "home" for a long visit and stay on the Island. My family is gone, but the Island will always be home.

Well, I knew Mike Colon too. But I have no idea where he is now. Every time I drive over that bridge, I always get the same awesome feeling(unless I am sitting in Saturday cross over rental traffic!)Countless summer jobs (some I stuck out and some I quit)and countless nights of warm breezes and bare feet (now all I have are tough feet to show for it)....but seriously, I probably debate with one person a summer about how LBI is absolutely the best shore spot in New Jersey. And for all those tourists who think it is a Northern Jersey shore, IT'S NOT!!! After having lived in Beach Haven right on the bay for over 15 years of my life, I have to say I am partial to sunsets rather than sunrises. I think I have only seen a handful of the latter. Some of my favorite spots-California Pizza Grill on 34th in BH; the Terrace Tavern in BH; the Spray Beach Inn for a nice quiet dinner overlooking the dunes.....incredible food-mad props to Doug, the awesome chef there; Tuckers for great food and atmosphere-great Prime Rib; and Buckalews for pretty good live bands; the Shell for drinking yourself silly on Sat. nights; Nardi's for Love Puppies on Thursdays; and, of course, Fritzie's Liquors, for all those cheap jugs of Paisano; Cold Waves in BH for awesome ice cream topping selections; and Mr. Movie for rainy nights or days. Really, there isn't enough I can say about the wonderful perks of growing up with a shorehouse. Our place was a motel at times-tons of friends taking up bed space, couch space and floor space. Ocean swims around 4:30 and wine and cheese on the beach (Champaign Cheddar from the Cheese Shop in SC) LBI you are awesome! I worship the ground you represent!

I absolutely love LBI!! My family and I rent a two- family house every summer there. We've been going to LBI for 14 years. It's so much fun, and mini golf is great! I just wish there was a good chinese restaurant, sidewalks, and more things to do on a rainy day. The ocean was a little rough this year, but at least there were no jellyfish. YEAH LBI!!!! :)

As a kid I grew up on the shores off LBI. My family had gone to LBI for fifteen or so years. They couldn't have picked a better place to go for the summer. I am now 24 and I live in Chicago. Next summer I plan on getting the next generation back to the shore!

I really think LBI is really cool and one of the best things about it is the guestbook that people not fortunate enough to be on the island, can read and sign all year long it's a real blessing for those of us who are pining for the island but are unfortunate enough to be landlocked inland . It would be really wonderful and useful to viewers of this magazine if the water temperature on the island were posted along with the air temperature as the local news here in pennsylvania doesn't always include it, and when they do, they always do it off Atlantic City offshore somewhere which dpoesn't do bathers headed for the island any good at all

Hey Guys! I'm so happy I found this site. I've been renting on LBI since I was 9 (I'm 17)and I love it so much. We just bought a house in Surf City last month and I could'nt ask for a better gift. It is the best place in the world. I live near Philly, and here everyone goes to the beaches in the south, but Long Beach Island is the best. I just came home today after a 1 week stay. LBI is always the #1 place to be. Great beaches and nightlife! Does anyone out there know if HYPERACTIVE is still around and playing on LBI. They absolutely ruled LBI in the 90's. My family just went on vacation to LBI (Surf City) 7/21/01 -7/28/01. We had such a great time!!! It was our first time there. My in-laws have been going for a couple of years and they always have so much fun, so we decided to give it a try. Some of our family's favorites things to do were riding the buggy bikes, the lighthouse, the Crystal Queen boatride in the bay and our trip to Jenkinson's Aquarium in Point Pleasant. And, of course, I cannot forget just hanging out on the beach. What a great place to go with the family! Hope to be back next summer.

i grew up on the jersey shore (lbi) and that is the thing i have missed most since i moved. it is the best place to vacation. there are alot of stores and resturants and a lot of fun things to do . there's also Fantasy Island which is a great plcae to spend a day or night. its a miniature amusment park!! i'm glad that my grandparents rent a house there every year so i can at least visit!!!!! I Love Long Beach Island. Rented a house last week of June and will be returning to the Sea Spray Motel on the 5th. (Great Motel, clean and reasonable). We have been vacationing here for about 10 years and went to Nardi's for the first time. "IPARTI with Nardi at the Shore 2001". This place is great for us "old over 40". I had a blast. The band Love Puppies was great! We love the Holiday Snack Shop, that Marshmallow cake is to die for. The only negative thing I can say about LBI is that there aren't alot of great restaurants. 7C's is very reasonable. One more thing LBI is great for families. I have a 17 year old son and 13 year old daughter who enjoy the island.

Stayed on the Island last weekend. It was a gorgeous 2 days! I happened to get a room at the Islander Motel,(someone cancelled one night), It was very clean and cute. Normally we stay in a house or at the Spray Beach Inn, but it was a last minute trip. So, I was happy! I NEED TO LIVE ON LBI!!! I LOVE IT! I will be back again on Sept. 16th.

I visited LBI for the last 2 weeks in June .... and I love it! I've made up my mind to leave Ireland for 2 or 3 months next summer to go and work on LBI, I can't wait! The beach is great, the people are great (Say Hi to Neil at The Ketch for me), it's just such a nice place to go....... I want to go back right now. It was one of my best holidays ever. Hello....my name is sarah..ive been going to long beach island even before i was born...my dad and uncles spent their summers there working at kellys and andys and helping my grandmother with her hotel "The Inlet of Breakers" on fifth street. I love it there so much. i am so thankful to my parents for all the good memories that they have given me every summer from L.B.I. , memories that i will hopefully someday pass on to my children. It's a tradition that my family spend part of the summer at our house in Barnaget Light. We go every year around the same time... first week in August. I love it there and can't wait to start my own traditions in L.B.I

Only about 4 1/2 weeks until our vacation on LBI. Can't wait, we've been vacationing there for about 8 years now, and we just love it. We stay at Ships Bottom. We always try to come the week of full moon. It's really beautiful on the beaches at night when the moon's full. The kids like to get in the minature golf tournaments and go to the Fantasy Island game room. There's lots to do for everyone. See you soon.

I cant wait until July 15th, I am coming down for the day and also in Sept. my fiance and I will be spending a few days. I have been going to LBI since I was just a little baby 28 years ago. So, its just not the summer without LBI..It's very special to me and my family. Just a few weeks ago, I went to Delaware beaches and to Ocean City, MD to visit my brother. Delaware (Fenwick Island) was nice.. But Ocean City you can keep! Its like a city on a beach. If you've been there you know what I mean.. highrises, tons of people everywhere, nowhere to park.. UGH!! I know teens and college kids love it, if you like that kind of atmosphere, or you just want to visit once... Now I know why I love LBI so much.. its my place and its a nice relaxing vacation!

I come here each year with my family for 2 weeks. Last year when was here the last weeks of july it rained the whole week. We tried to go to the movies but every show was sold out. It rained so much that it flooded the "Hands" parking lot we had to take our shoes of and wade in the water to get back to our beach house.

I have been going to LBI sinec about 1965 as a child with my parents. I remember the island being made up of small summer homes and larger ones on the beach areas. There were many open lots with toads running all over through the saw grass. I recall being on the island during several hurricanes, what a time. Seeing Jaws in the movies there. My memories of my family at the light house are vivid and now I have 3 kids of my own. They love the light house and Andy's store. I know they will have the fond summer memories that I also have. We now have a home in Beach Haven West and enjoy LBI. Enjoy the Summer of 2001, my 36th one around LBI.

Anyone remember Freedom Surf Shop? That place was the best, had the coolest shirts back in the 80s...RonJon can't compare. Just got back from a lovely visit to NJ. My mom grew up on LBI and the trip brought back fond memories of summer visits there as a child. I truly enjoyed seeing the Barnegat Lighhouse again, and visiting Mario's Italian Deli in Surf City. It's a totally different way of life up there, from here in Dallas... and I miss the laid back lifestyle you have up there. But I have my memories, and can visit in my mind, anytime I want! I am convinced we are all family on this island, and we are the ones who make this island tick. My mother calls it the magic island, and I see now how right she is. She also calls it her island, but that's when we say "ok mom, enough is enough" :) Anyway, please stop by for a drink or to say hello anytime. how did a guy from Ohio write the new LBI theme song? I just love the place, that's why. Please enjoy it and write me. My Mom was there some 40 years ago when the Starboard Inn opened. We've been going there for every summer for the last 25 years or so. We have cousins from Canada, so if you've been around Surf City North 1st street for the last 10 years or so, you may have seen the Surf City CAN-AM Olympic games being played. I've been known to do a lousy Elvis impersonation with the GREAT Jackie and Paul. The best part is to see my kids get the same joy and look forward all year long to those two weeks when we re-charge our souls at the best place in the world... LBI, because Life Is Just A Beach!!!

89 Degrees with a bright sun and blue as can be ocean. Getting up Tuesday, Wed. , Thursday to play in mini-golf tournament. Hey everyone. I am a true LBI lover. I have been going there ever since I was a year old and now hear I am still going at the age of 22. LBI is a wonderful place to go with your family and friends. So much to do and see. Who needs a beach with a boardwalk when you have Pier 18, Bay Village, Fantasy Island, The lighthouse, some pretty neat bars and restaurants, and a wonderful clean sandy beach, plus much much more... I have been to other beaches, but I must say that LBI is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!! Can't wait for my yearly visit in August!!!!!

Woehr's Marina at the southern tip of LBI is a great place to rent boat slips or a trailer sites. The new management is great and the place is not dumpy. It is the last marina on the island. A great time!!

I Love L.B.I. I have been Vaca,ing there for 20 Years!! Ship Bottom was the best untill about 5 years ago. We had a House on or about 9th street. Second from the Beach and Big wraparound Deck. A Dream place to spend the Week ( or so We thought). Next Door were "The Sweeneys by the Sea" as the name said on thier front Yard Plaque.Called the Cops on Us every Day!!! Kids playing in the Street, Us enjoying the Porch, or as on the first Day as we were moving in, The Water was Dripping in the Back Yard Shower and it's ruining their Rocks in their Yard. But enough to say about that. Don't rent the house next Door to them or you'll have the Vacation from Hell too!! I still Love L.B.I. Renting around Widas on August 11 this Year. See You all then!! I went to Long Beach Island for a short vacation last June. I stayed at the Lorry's Motel. Unfortunately, I had to leave the very next morning due to a family emergency. When I found out I asked the Office Manager if I could get the credited to me to use again. She said that since I wasn't even there for 24 hours that it would be fine to get the credit and that when I had time after eveything cleared up that to call and she would send me a letter stating that. Well, it's now March and I have yet to receive it and their books don't even show that I was there at all. When I confronted the owner of the motel he was unbelievably rude, snoty, and had no respect what so ever. I would never stay at Lorry's Motel again nor recommend it to anyone. And if you are thinking of staying there I would think twice. I've traveled a lot and I have never been so badly treated. I will never visit LBI again. That was my first and last time there.

I began visiting LBI in 1976 when I was 11. We stayed just off the Island, near the Quarter Deck Inn. I went usually with my parent's and Grandmother and we always has the best two weeeks ever. I have travelled extensively and if I were to choose to live anywhere else, LBI would be the place I would choose as home. Every year I went I made may friends along the beach and always wound up exchanging addresses. I even had my first Summer Romance at LBI. In 1979, I met a girl named Karen, with whom I have been pen-pals with eversince. We have only seen eachother twice since meeting but are the best of friends and write &phone eachother frequently as our lives are very busy. We both have such fond memories of the Island and both always return for vacation. This year we hope to plan one so that we are there at the same time.

Hi! The people who have never been 2 lbi have to come everything is perfect down there! There beaches r beautiful and I am already excited to go ! Its even better then florida to me ! And almost everyone likes florida now can u imagine how wonderful it is down there i have been to ocean city, wildwood,sea isle and nothing can beat Long Beach island its nice to go on the beach at night and watch the set while eating ice cream or go to a kids dream land with rides water park minture golf and the shops who needs to be in a hassle with people at the other shores bumping in to u on the boardwalk! THIS IS GREAT! I grew up in NJ and spent alot of time at many different NJ beaches with LBI being my favorite of course. This past summer of 2000 my wife and I brought our 1 and a half year old daughter and stayed at the "Engle Side Inn". Our daughter had the best time as did we.
