Yes, I lived on LBI from 1962 thru 1973. Graduated from Southern Regional in 1972. LBI was the best. The locals always looked forward to the summers. It came alive. Someday I will return to see how things have changed. Your site is great. I enjoy the information and stories. One of my greatest treasures is a painting I had done in 1972 of Old Barney. Hope to see you all in 2004.

IBeach Haven is the best! It feels like home and I wish I can some day call it that! The Beacon is gone and I miss it. There were so many memories created there and it is gone. It makes me want to cry. I'm sure all of those that have ever visited it, will miss it dearly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grandparents have a house in BEACH HAVEN! me and my twinie cuz lauren spend most of the summer down there chillin on the beach, hanging out in bayvillage, going to the clubs! we count the days in the winter until we can go back !!!!! As children, my sisters and I would stay at the old Sierra Motel, which was located right by the beach...We could not wait to ride the Black Whale, go to Bay Village and get "elephant ears" & fudge, get great stuff at Hand's, and generally have a wonderful special time at Beach Haven. After twenty years, I returned. The Sierra Motel was gone but my husband and I stayed at the Engleside Inn which was very nice...Great Banana Daquiaris at The Sand Bar...I liked the old mixing with the new...I still got the same "Rush" I got as a child and I will be returning next year...I love Beach Haven! Always have a great time on LBI. Been going there for over 20 years now (I'm 24) and have loved every minute. We had a girls weekend there this passed weekend, with the weather turning out beautifully it made for a great beach weekend. We spent time at Nardi's, Kubel's, The Marlin, Tuckers, Bay Village, Shopping all over, and at the beach. We also meet a band that plays down there and hung out with them for a awhile... What a great time... We are looking forward to doing another girls weekend next year in the middle of September.. Not many people there... was great!!!!

Ted - you are one of the few people that actually grew up on LBI. Perhaps you knew my sisters (Kathy or Barbara) or brother Paul. We moved to LBI when the bridge was made out of wood! and include 2 draw bridges. - Went to LBI Grade School and Southern - LBI has always been special. I bought my first surfboard at RonJon's when I was 12 - the only other surfshop was Kosoff's in beach haven where Huckelberry, the Smith's, Barefoot, etc. were all on the Hobie Surf Team. - Played little league for the Rotary (and went 18-0) you probabley played for Shaffers. We used to play in the whaleing boats in the dunes behind the fishery at the Circle. Also the dunes and ship wreck in Barnegat Light at 12 street. - Teen age years at "Le Garage" - when Springsteen used to play on Tuesday nights - I remember my brother talking about the guys you mentioned that you grew up with. I think one of my sisters went to the prom with Todd - Okay - good times, great memories - LBI rocks

if you want to stay at fleabag hotels come to long beach il. 2oo dollars a night at the drifting sands motels is what im talking about, its a real flea bag dump under the guise of a motel. i only wish the beach had a sheraton,best western or motel6 the dumps on the isl.would be thorn down and used as firewood.nobody would want that musty dirty smelling wood in the building of their houses.WHAT A SHQAME SUCH ANICE BEACH WITH FILTHY ACCOMODATIONS.WORLD CLASS IF YOU WERE HOMLESS AND YOU HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THE STREETS OR A MUSTY MOLDLY HOTEL ROOM.

I was born (1946) and raised on my beloved LBI and regret not being able to live there now. I attended the(at the time) brand new Ship Bottom Elementary School and was in only the second class to graduate from Southern Regional High School attending grades 7 through 12. I still fondly recall some of my classmates such as Toddy Nicholson, Norman Haug, Jimmy (Fat) Smith, Joey Lafferty and many, many others. Hey, does anybody remember my old neighbors in Surf City ,those Spodofora brothers Ron and Jon? I here they might have a little shop and still rent out rafts and beach umbrellas in the summertime. Too bad they cant make a living at it. Poor guys. I hope they make out all right. If anybody out there remembers me, please send an E-mail and I'll get right back to you.

To Theresa of East Brunswick, NJ....one of the best crabbing spots is under the causeway. Just park at the boat place next door, walk under the bridge, and find a spot to set up. My dad has been crabbing there ever since he was little and has ALWAYS caught lots of crabs!!! Good luck!

$200a night you should get a clean not smelling of mold room.in my travels at the shore for over 30yrs,jersey shore motels were built in the 60s and never updated just scalped the people and hoped they would get a new sucker the next year. The beaches are great but your accomadations are not world class,just low class with a not worth the value for the money spent feeling you get when you check in.I would love for national hotel chains come and put up motels from SANDY HOOK to CAPE MAY and see if any of your dumps would last out two seasons. if any member of you hotel assocation would like to leave me a message please feel free to e mail me.I WILL REPLY thank you

parents having such a great time at Beach Haven. One part of that movie is of me holding on to my dads leg while he fished, holding on for dear life as I was just a toddler. Every summer we went down and what wonderful memories. I could hardly wait to smell that ocean air and when I did, I knew we were near. Summer after summer we looked forward to going to Beach Haven. Dad would always help Fulton work on his cottage while mom swept sandy floors and cooked meals for all us kids. Seems she never got a rest with all us kids. Well, after we grew up then it was OUR kids that WE took down. Mom and dad were still going and doing the same endless jobs..cleaning up, cooking, and fixing up. Needless to say we all enjoyed summer vacations at L.B.I. and now that my kids have grown, my husband and I will be going down again soon...JUST FOR OLD TIMES SAKE!

AS A CHILD, I REMEMBER AS SOON AS THE SCHOOL YEAR WAS OVER, MY GRANDPARENTS WOULD TAKE US TO HER COUSINS BEACH HOUSE, FULTON NEUHAUS, DOWN IN BEACH HAVEN N.J. EVERY YEAR. GRANDMA WOULD PACK EVERYTHING IN THE HOUSE IT WOULD SEEM. BOXES OF TOWELS, SHEETS, FOOD, ETC. IT WAS THE BEST VACATION EVERY SUMMER. BUILDING SAND TRAPS IN THE BACK YARD. MY BIG BROTHERS WOULD TAKE ME W/ THEM FOR WALKS DOWN TO THE BAY SIDE OR TO THE VILLAGE SHOPPING AREA. OR AFTER A FEW YEARS, TO THE WATER SLIDE THEY HAD JUST BUILT. ALL DURING A TIME WHEN THINGS WERE SO UNCOMMERCIALIZED. THINGS WERE SIMPLE. THEN OUT CAME THE MOVIE JAWS, AND I WAS AFRAID OF THE WATER THINKING HE WAS IN THERE. I OFTEN WANTED TO RETURN TO THAT ISLAND TO SEE WHAT IT HAS BECOME. WITH SO MANY WONDERFUL CHILDHOOD MEMORIES, IT WOULD BE GREAT TO VISIT THERE AGAIN. SOMEDAY! THE BEST OF ALL THAT I CAN REMEMBER FROM ALMOST 30 YEARS AGO, WAS WHEN HURRICANE AGNES HIT AND MY PARENTS AND AUNTS AND UNCLES FROM BACK IN YORK COUNTY SHOWED UP AT THE BEACH HOUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. GRANDMA WAS UP COOKING EGGS AT 3 A.M. FOR THEM WHEN THEY ARRIVED. ALL THE LAUGHTER COMING FROM THAT TINY KITCHEN WITH SAND FILLED FLOORS, WOKE UP THE REST OF THE HOUSE GUESTS, KIDS AND ALL. IT WAS A GREAT TIME. WHEN IT WAS TIME TO SAY GOOD-BYE UNTIL THE NEXT SUMMER, I ALWAYS REMEMBER MY SPECIAL GOOD-BYES TO FULTON'S WIFE, GINNY. I agree with Robert and Lauren down below, LBI has become more crowded over the years.. but I can never complain because at least there are no boardwalks!! (THANK GOD!) I stay in Barnegat Light every year(since 1973) and it is still a nice quiet area. Never too many people on the beach. The further up the island you go..(esp. Ship Bottom and Beach Haven) the beaches get too crowded. I love LBI for the atmosphere and it is VERY special to me. I cant wait to go down again this summer in August.

Leaving tomorrow for a week in Beach Haven. I'm 32 years old and I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. My wife and I have been going since we were kids, now we bring our two daughters. I'm going to hit Tucker's, The Boathouse, Hudson House, Chowder Hut (Softshell Crab Sandwich), Pinky's, Sing for My Ice Cream (maybe), Jersey Devil (for Bluefishing) and ofcourse one or two nights at Fantasy Island/Bay Village. It may not be Fiji, but I've never had more fun or a better vacation ANYWHERE.

LBI was a wonderful vacation spot for us. Unfortunately my daughter Dina Lynn Galante died in Beach Haven on 9th Street on July 9, 1990. She was only fifteen years old. Killed by a drunk driver. So please please watch out crossing the street by the 7-ll. We just arrived that day. Had a wonderful day on the beach and Dina went across the street to get Italian Ices and never came back. So every year I visit that corner and put flowers for here there. Say a prayer when you pass that corner for my darling Dina and be careful on your vacation.

I also agree with Robert of Surf City. My family have been homeowners (and year round residents) of Surf City since 1949 and I CANNOT believe how crowded the island has become. Finding a place to sit on the beach during high tide gives me high blood pressure! I'm only spending 2 weeks down there this summer. Although I look forward to it, I know I will not get in my car during my entire stay. Let's keep the (once well kept) secret of LBI to ourselves!!

Long time year 'round resident of Surf City here to tell you that this is a good site, but LBI needs no more promotion. The positive vibe of the Island is diminishing as it gets more crowded. I remember a time, not long ago, when there were no such things as loud cell-phone conversations on the beach, when you never needed to lock a door (car OR house), and when visiting pre-teens and teens didn't lace their language with vulgarity and obscenity (at least not within earshot of adults). Aggressive and oblivious drivers, city-like sounds and attitudes, and electric company power failures this Independence Day Weekend add insult to injury.

that is the e-mail address where I receive all my messages. Just found your site last weekend; WONDERFUL...don't know how I've missed it before. I particularly enjoyed the historical tour of Beach Haven, your listings of rentals by owners, and your live web cams of the beach. I've noticed though that the web cam shots don't exactly change every ten minutes. When I first found your site I was very excited about the web cam and checked it out periodically, but was a little disappointed to find that the the scene I was seeing took days to change. I was born and raised in Bergen County..my family vacationed at LBI for two weeks each summer while my sisters and I were growing up. My parents would rent a house along with my Aunt and Uncles and cousins. I live in New England now, but have returned to LBI many times since with my own family as well as my siblings and parents. New England is beautiful with a lovely coastline of its own and many quaint and beautiful coastal areas....but....for me it is not the same as LBI. It's missing the familiariy and memories. And, the water is too COLD!!

Hi, I've been going to LBI for years with my family. Around 12 or 13 years ago,I found a rather unique piece of jewelry on the ground outside a store front in Bay Village. I was quite little then, and my mother took it and put it in her jewelry case for safe keeping, as she didn't really know how to go about trying to find out who it belonged to. Maybe we should have tried harder. Recently, I took it out and started wearing it, but I can't help wondering about the woman who lost it, as it appears to be rather special. I started latching on to the idea that maybe, by some miracle I would be able to return it if I put a little effort into the search- especially since LBI is a place that people consider a second home and go back year after year like mine does. Most people think I'm crazy to believe I could ever return something I found randomly so long ago, but as I was just touched by a rather amazing coincidence in my own life, I'm not going to knock it. So if you happen to have lost a special piece of jewelry a long time ago, please reply with a detailed description of it. It's quite unique. I am looking forward very much to my trip down on July 5th, when I hope the weather will be better and there will be good waves to surf :) Ali Hill

I've been going to Barnegat Light, Long Beach Island since I was about 2 years old with my family, traveling all the way from Georgia. We would spend our summers there and found it to be a memorable experience while growing up. Nicely enough, we made lots of friends of whom we visited from year to year. We still have friends that we see every year, but are only able to come for a week's vacation now. Now Barnegat Light is a tradition for my own family and we look forward to visiting each year from Virginia.

Note to Pat and Amy Switzer, Skilman, NJ. I had a blast at your condo, the week of 6-7to6-14. It was a perfect place to rent. We even had the sun. We ate at Tuckers for tree nights in a row. The food was that good! For a real treat, we went to the Plantation in Harvey Cedars. Expensive, but wonderful food. Of course, breasfasts were at Uncle Wills. I miss the island already! Kathy C

Does anyone know where I can get the long narrow street map of LBI? This is the one that has all the street names on it is about 3 feet wide by one foot tall. It is on white paper with blue ink. It has no advertisements on it. I have tried Hands, SB 5+10, SC 5+10...no luck. Any thoughts??? I want to buy a few of them.

I was told that LBI is the perfect place to spend the summers. Now I only need a boat slip for a 30 foot sport fishing boat. The boat is 25 feet long but with engines and bracket and bow pulpit it reaches between 28 and 30 feet. I never visited LBI until I started dating my husband. His family has vacationed down here for the past 20 years. I fell in love with it and it holds a special place in my heart. I have been coming to LBI since 1990. I was 10 years old when I first came there. I am 23 now and I love the place as much as I did when I was a child. I love the beaches, the shops, the food, I love the whole island in general. I plan on moving down there for the summer in 2004. Eventually I would like to purchase a home down there and just live there for the summers, or visit often. It's a beautiful place to be, no other beaches on the east coast can even compare.

Pehala Park? I'm thinking that's maybe where my family had their beach house....I remember Skipper Dipper, the Acme and the movie theater....Our street was Florida Avenue... which was ironic because I did eventually move to Florida when I was 13! My first trip to LBI was in 1978 My first date with connie ( now my wife) She and her family had been comming to LBI sence the early 60's. I fell in love with LBI. My family always went to florida and I though the beachs were great. but only second to LBI. We have been comming to LBI every summer for the week of my birthday (august) and spend a week for the last 26 years. We also come down in October and spend the weekend for our anniversary every year. We think it is a great place to come any season. WE JUST LOVE LBI!

My wife has been comming to LBI sence she was a teenager. One of our first dates was to go to LBI. I had never been to the jersey shore. My first visit was in 1978 and I fell in love with LBI. We come every summer for my birthday and spend a week. For our anniversary in October we come down for the weekend. So we love LBI all season. When we come down it is like comming home. We just love it!

Ive been going to LBI before i can remeber. I have so many memories there from when i first learned to walk to now. Ive met 6 wonderful people there and its amazing how we all still meet up in LBI every year, all staying on 100th street. People may think its boring because is has no boardwalk, but i think thats what makes it so much better because its different!

Pehala Park is a very small town that is located near Brant Beach. Not many people know about it and think that it is part of Brant Beach. Some places that are there are the Skipper Dipper(an ice cream shop), Acme, and a movie theater. It is mostly made up of houses though. Hope I answered your question!!!

Where on the island is Pehala Park? i went to LBI every summer of my childhood and many times as an adult (would love to go more but distance prevents me) and never once have i heard anyone refer to Pehala Park and now i see 3 or 4 posts below that reference it.

LBI is such a great place to be....in fact, it's my favorite place in the world! My family just sold our beach house there in Pehala Park, and we bought a new one in Harvey Cedars.
